How do i slow down my dvd writing speed?

it's at 9x right presently, and its causing errors within playback of the dvd. i need it down to the 4x writing speed, but i can't appear to figure out how to do it. i'm using sony's click to dvd program.

Go to Start->My Computer. Right click on the deity for your DVD drive (usually designated as drive D:). Click on the Recording tab, and select a speed from the drop down menu.
