I'm trying to install linux on my system and it requirements a partition. it supposedly have the menu to set one up, but it never works. i want to create a partition to put it on minus making linux have to create the hedge. how do i do this?
i'm running windows xp professional.
How to create a thorny drive hedge?
Windows XP will not tolerate you resize your partition if XP is already using adjectives available space on the hard drive.
You will necessitate a 3rd party software approaching Norton PartitionMagic to shrink the partition to free up space on the exisiting dividing wall to create additional partition for Linux.
Otherwise, just use a Linux Live Cd/DVD which allows you to boot Linux from your cd/dvd drive minus the need to install it.
All of the distributions that I've used allow you to create 2 partition for LINUX during the installation (1 for the root file system and 1 for the swap file). RedHat, Fedora, Suse, Ubuntu, etc. It's a standard fragment of the installation process.
