How do you check if power supply on PC is limp or not?

I merely bought a brand new psu and looked-for to attempt to build my first computer, but when I plugged the psu into the power outlet and turned it on with none of the cable connected to any hardware, the psu's fan would not start. Did I carry a bad power supply or what?

I reckon this will clear this up. Yes you can turn on a power supply without it human being connected to a computer. Be careful not to cross the wrong wires. I find a safer method is to use an dated motherboard plug in the power supply and after use an insulated jumper from the board to turn it on for conducting tests.

you'll own to plug your PSU to your motherboard at least. You can also use a paperclip to start it, but you risk electrocution or break to your PSU.



oh, and there's also a power supply tester that you can get at most electronic stores for going on for 20-30$. that can test if your PSU is apt or not without a board.

The power supply requests to be connected to the motherboard in direct to work.



The actual switch to turn it on runs through the motherboard.



The switch on the back of the Power Supply is with the sole purpose for interrupting power to the PSU, not for turning it on.

you may have, lift it to any pc shop they own a tester there for that they can check that contained by 2 minutes
